The Top 5 Soft Skills Recruiters Look For

0

Looking for a job is hard enough, these days, but it can be harder if you don’t have the right skills.  With that in mind, here are the 5 top “soft skills” (approaches, techniques) RenaudExec recruiters are looking for in a candidate.

Soft Skill #1:  PROBLEM SOLVING

The number one soft skill recruiters are looking for is problem solving. While the internet has certainly improved anyone’s ability to find solutions on the fly, employers are still looking for  workers who are able to approach problems with a creative and adventurous eye and look for solutions that will not only serve the problem but the people involved as well. More suited for management positions, anyone who can demonstrate this trait will certainly rank higher on a hiring short list.

Soft Skill #2:  ADAPTABILITY/FLEXIBLE

For those who might be seeking entry level and “unskilled” positions, the ability to adapt could place you higher in the candidate pool than those who are very good at only one thing. In fact, in some cases, demonstrating your ability to learn new ideas quickly and adapt to them can sometimes be more important than being an expert on a single thing (again, in terms of entry level positions).

Soft Skill #3:  TIME MANAGEMENT

It is easy to overlook but time management (or lack thereof) can be the factor that determines whether or not you get the job (or keep a job). And it is more than just showing up on time:  this skill involves working effectively so you can accomplish tasks as efficiently as possible.

Soft Skill #4:  ORGANIZATION

You might think that this would place higher on a list like this, but personal organization is not necessarily as important as some of the others, particularly because you can learn to be more organized.  Still, showing up to an interview exhibiting disorganization, for example, will almost certainly ensure you are not going to be hired for the job.

Soft Skill #5:  COMMUNICATION

A lot of people overlook the importance of proper communication, these days.  Buried in our phones, many people do more communicating through social media and text messaging than they do face to face, which is a very different thing altogether.  And while various computer and mobile apps can edit your words and even your sentences to make you sound more intelligent, true eloquence comes from knowing not only what to say and how to say it but also when to listen, how to listen, and how to properly and respectfully ask a question.
